Toronto is getting an 8,000 square foot cannabis lounge
West Hollywood is set to get its own cannabis cafe, there’s been talk of opening a lounge in Denver, and now you can add one more city to your upcoming cannabis lounge tour: Toronto. Canada’s jewel on Lake Ontario is going to have a new space called byMinistry, which is going to be an 8,000 square foot “community hub” including a cannabis consumption lounge and a restaurant serving “plant-forward food" and drinks, a culinary school for learning how to cook cannabis-infused food, and a modular event space set to host experiences around art, fashion, and music.
The industry veterans at Mocanna are running the show, and there’s a couple of assisting sponsors, including the very cool Tokyo Smoke dispensary. Construction on the space is set to begin soon, and they’re aiming for an opening by the end of the year.
This set of lounges opening up almost seems like a “second wave” of cannabis legalization — initially, legalization was just about home use and cultivation, but as cannabis becomes legal in more places (and, surprise, all of the doom and gloom predicted by opponents fails to appear), we’re starting to see more communities open up to social consumption. It seems like there are a lot of really interesting ideas about what a cannabis-focused social space will be like, and we’re looking forward to seeing them come into existence over the next few years.
