Arkansas' first two months of medical cannabis sales reach $2.2 million
Medical cannabis sales officially started in the state of Arkansas back on May 10 of this year, and already, after just two months, sales have hit $2.2 million. That has outpaced states like Ohio and Oklahoma, and sales are only going to grow. While there are five dispensaries open in Arkansas right now, there are 27 other licenses issued, meaning that this is only the beginning.
Prices are currently fairly high (at about $15 a gram, though in California the drug can be even more expensive), but just like in other states, the more that the regulated market is able to build up and get established, the more the black and gray markets will hopefully settle down and become less of a factor. Not all of Arkansas’ growth facilities are up and running yet, either, so that should increase supply eventually as well.
Either way, that’s an impressive start for cannabis in what’s generally known as one of the most conservative states in the country. We’ll look forward to seeing the figures at the end of the year, once the market in Arkansas has finished rolling out and actually matured a bit.
