West Hollywood is moving ahead with an actual cannabis cafe

Cannabis cafes in the US have been a big question mark for a while now — there have been some attempts to open them in Denver, but most communities so far haven’t been ok with having an actual facility where people can go and use cannabis on the property. One group in West Hollywood, California seems to have broken the barrier, however, as a group called Lowell Herb Co. has gotten approval to open a real, actual cannabis cafe, called Lowell Farms.

The facility will offer both a full smoking area and cannabis-based food, and while apparently there were some concerns during the approval process (the planned cafe is right across the street from a synagogue, whose rabbi was apparently opposed to the approval), those concerns weren’t enough to keep approval from being unanimous. Lowell also plans to include a heavy duty air filtration system, to minimize any effect on the surrounding area. The LA-based company has been making great pre-rolls for a while now, and presumably the cafe will show off their products and others.

There’s no alcohol allowed on the premises at all (which is fine — mixing alcohol and cannabis isn’t always fun anyway), and apparently the license is only good for one year, so if there are any issues, the cafe could disappear pretty quickly. Still, it’s great to see West Hollywood take this historic step, and now that the approval has passed, Lowell Farms says they could be up and running there within months. We’ll have to go and stop by — we’ll be taking a look at the Museum of Weed right across town there soon.
