Israeli company announces a cannabis inhaler
Syqe Medical is a company based in Israel that has announced what it’s calling the first cannabis inhaler. Unlike a regular vape, an inhaler has pre-metered doses, so it’s fire-and-forget — you don’t need to worry about dosing, as it’s all taken care of. For recreational users, that might sound like a pain, but it could be very important for medical users, who need to use exactly the same amount of cannabis, or a certain prescribed amount every time.
Syqe’s device is currently going through approval in Israel, and even if it passes, it’s not cheap. They’re planning to offer it for NIS 1950, which equates to about $550 US. But the company, which has raised over $83 million in funding so far, says that this is as precise as cannabis delivery gets. There’s a company all signed up for distribution in Israel once it’s approved, and then Syqe also says its planning to roll the device out to other countries after that.
This definitely seems like a big play for the medical industry, but it’s not clear just how important precision is — are there really medical cases that need such specific doses? If so, hopefully this inhaler will help. Whenever Israel’s FDA approves it, Syqe sounds ready to deliver as soon as possible.
