Ben and Jerry's plans to make CBD ice cream (and is supporting legalization)
The legendary ice cream chain Ben and Jerry’s has announced that it’s ready to make CBD ice cream… just as soon as that’s legal to do across the US. CBD, if you haven’t heard, is sort of THC’s cousin — it’s a compound that attaches to your cannabinoids just like THC does, but without the psychadelic effects. CBD provides some of the benefits of cannabis in general, but doesn’t include the “high” that THC causes (and that can, in some people, induce paranoia or anxiety).
CBD is currently legal anywhere marijuana is legal, but that’s not good enough for Ben and Jerry’s yet — the company says it’s got CBD-enhanced ice cream ready to roll (and that sounds delicious), but wants the FDA to weigh in clearly on whether it can distribute that product nationwide. The FDA held a public hearing last week, and Ben and Jerry’s reportedly submitted a comment in favor of legalization there. So we’ll see!
Ben and Jerry’s has been great about legalization in the past as well — not only has the company publicly supported legalization, but also justice and equality around legalization, which is just as wonderful as their ice cream. Here’s hoping CBD, at least, can jump over the legal obstacles Ben and Jerry are waiting for, and we can dig in with a spoon to that ice cream as soon as its available.
And if you think CBD ice cream sounds tasty, just wait until it shows up in your favorite munchies!
