Using cannabis before or after a workout? Experts say it could help
UrbanDaddy has a fun profile on Jim McAlpine, the proprietor of San Francisco's Power Plant Fitness, a workout spot that labels itself as the world's first cannabis gym. While not all cannabis use seems perfect for the gym (indicas can slow you down a bit, and dry mouth can be an extra issue when you're already sweating out gallons of water), using the drug can actually be a great combo with activities like weightlifting and yoga. It's super helpful with pain, too, and McAlpine and others cited in the article say that there's definitely a place for cannabis in an athlete's life.
Unfortunately, according to the website, it looks like Power Plant Fitness hasn't opened yet -- the gym is trying to fight "funding and regulatory issues" to make the space happen. Still, there's plenty of ways to work out while high, even if you're just taking a few hits and then going for a nice walk.
There's also events like the 420 Games, a series of athletic events in LA meant to promote the healthy and responsible use of cannabis. If you've never given cannabis a try while working out, take a hit before you head into the gym, or sit down to relax a bit after a really hard workout. As long as you go low and slow, you might find that cannabis helps you enjoy exercise more, and helps you feel your best when you've given it your all.
