SXSW announces a series of marijuana-related panels in 2019
South by Southwest is a huge cultural event that happens in Austin, Texas every year, and considering how important cannabis is to the culture lately, it’s probably not surprising that the festival has announced a slew of panels related to the (quickly becoming legal) drug.
The most exciting panel is probably the Cannabis Feminism Meet Up — aside from offering what sounds like an engaging open conversation about the industry, it seems like it will spotlight some interesting female entrepreneurs and their stories. There are also panels about the racist roots of the War on Drugs (and how they can hopefully be uprooted over time) and the politics of marijuana in Texas specifically (where the drug is still illegal, despite some strong recent attempts to change that).
There are tons of other panels in there too, including some information on marketing medical vs. recreational and the general state of cannabis legality across the US. There’s even a talk called Sex, Health and Cannabis, so that could be a fun addition to your SXSW trip as well. The full schedule is available on the SXSW website, and the festival is kicking off next March as usual in Austin.
