Bill Nye to buy marijuana on upcoming episode of his Netflix show
Television personality (and science guy) Bill Nye has announced that he's purchased weed for an upcoming episode of his Netflix show. In a segment that will air on the first episode of the second season of Bill Nye Saves the World, Nye says he got a medical recommendation and went to a dispensary, and was able to purchase some cannabis. There's no word on whether he actually used it or not, but he says he wants to research it, as there's a lot more research to be done.
"“Nobody’s really sure how it works," he told CNET. "Nobody’s really sure what it does. And so, there’s a very strong argument that keeping it as a Schedule I drug is not based on any science." No kidding! Most of the reasons for marijuana prohibition have turned out to be more racist than anything else. Nye is exaggerating a bit when he says that "nobody's really sure what it does" -- there's some science already on how it affects the brain in general. But yes, there's lots more research to be done on cannabis and all of the different ways it can be used to affect the human body, both negatively and positively. Hopefully Nye's segment will help to encourage the research and scientific scrutiny that this drug deserves. It's helped so many people over the years, so it's important that we are able to know exactly why and how, and help many more people in the future.
