Cheech Marin stars in PSA designed to get cannabusiness rolling in California
I wish there was a way to tell you about this without revealing the secret, but it's hard not to jump to the big reveal on this one: Cheech Marin himself is starring in a PSA created by the California Secretary of State, designed to let would-be cannabusiness owners know where they need to go to start the process to sell cannabis in California. Recreational weed is going legal in California on January 1st (creating the largest market in the world), and so the Secretary of State needed someone to tell people where to begin, and they picked up one of the two most familiar faces in the community (well, four, if you include Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg)
You can see the PSA above. It's not exactly an engaging thriller (Cheech just sits behind a desk and basically repeats the URL for a lady), but it's a fun watch, and it's so cool to see one of the most formative figures in the industry get to go legit. Cheech did the project as a favor to the secretary, Alex Padilla, and he says that marijuana is undergoing a "generational shift" with legalization. Cheech also has his own line of marijuana strains, called Cheech's Private Stash.
But even though you'll compete against him, it seems like Cheech is more than happy to help CA's cannabusiness get off the ground. Kudos to him for helping out the SOS' office, and it's great to someone from what was once an underground counterculture use his celebrity to help bring the industry out into the mainstream.
