Marijuana advent calendar company struggles to keep up with demand

The news came through a little while ago that a marijuana vendor in Vancouver would be offering an advent calendar this year for about $230, and while it sounded like a good idea at the time, it turns out that it's more like a great idea. Coast to Coast Medicinals says they've been overwhelmed by the responses, and that they've now got about 400 calendars sold, and a waiting list of 1500 on top of that.

Sure, a calendar for the whole of Advent with a different little edible or flower bud in a new compartment to open up as a surprise every day sounds great, but wow! That's a whole lot of business for a crazy idea! The waitlist sounds completely full but if you want to put in your order, the product is online now. You can pick variations of flower-only, edible-only, or a calendar that mixes some flower options with a few edibles. Tasty!

There are some issues, unfortunately. The first one being that technically, in Canada (though in the US as well) the calendar is illegal. The seller, however, says she doesn't really care, and is unlikely to actually get prosecuted, given the government's attitude towards weed up in the Great White north. Good luck with that!

The other issue is that some are worried that the colorful and playful calendar might appeal to kids, but of course this is an adult product being bought and sold by adults -- kids won't have anything to do with it, hopefully. The company also says that the advent calendar is designed like an ugly sweater, both because that's hilarious and hopefully to dissuade kids from picking up something that would otherwise be more colorful or flashy.

Whatever comes of this calendar, however, we can echo the vendor's opinion here as well: "You've not seen anything yet, believe me. The tsunami is on the way. You're going to see a lot more of this develop." She's exactly right. As legalization continues and more and more channels for selling marijuana products to the public arise, there will undoubtedly be plenty more fun ideas and products like this to go around.
